The race is on for the c-suite to truly understand their most valuable business asset...

When it comes to using their own data to influence critical commercial and business decisions, 86% of the c-suite within some of the UK’s largest organisations say they’ve got it all sown up.

We gathered a panel of these business leaders and they told us that they’re already truly data-driven and literate. Two fifths (43%) describe their organisation as ‘data decisive’ meaning it is genuinely data driven.  They told us that data-based insights flow freely through to the right people, at the right time. And that it’s this which is powering the right business decisions to be made.

But something’s not quite adding up...

If all that’s true, why did 3 in 5 also admit that important c-suite decisions are still being made on gut instinct and market rumour alone? 70% feel forced to buy third-party market intelligence to paint the picture they say their own data can’t? That behind closed boardroom doors there are serious concerns around data being out of date, inaccessible and uncontrolled? Or biased or too contradictory to help them reach an informed conclusion?

There’s clearly a disconnect between data-based aspiration and reality.

Our study found that beneath the surface many business leaders, especially CEOs, are not as confident about their data-intelligence prowess as they initially led us to believe.

In our upcoming report, Decoding Data, we share these candid admissions from business leaders, exploring them against predictions that one of the most turbulent economic periods is imminent, and discuss why finding solutions to these data-based challenges has now reached a critical juncture.
